I would like to inquire about some different mounting options also. It would be great if there were legs that allowed us to mount the light a bit higher off the water. Another option would be some...

Re: Do I need a powerhead?

We are going to have to disagree on a 10x flow rate harming livestock. In a healthy medium to heavily planted aquarium there are plenty of spots inbetween plants, under leaves, and so on where a...

Re: Do I need a powerhead?

Generally the standard I see on this site is a minimum of 10 times the volume of the tank in total flow in the aquarium. I believe this is the average flow to aim fo and can go higher or lower based...

Re: Eco-Complete only as substrate?

Eco complete is an inert substrate. You will need to dose fertilizer and use root tabs with it. This substrate has a high cation exchange which means that is has the ability to absorb the...

Re: hate this algae..can't find the name

Re: Fluval Spec Pump Upgrade Mod! w pics!

I just solved my own problem:

The issue was that the pump created a suction and slid itself up against the wall. By sliding out the suction cup bracket slightly on the bottom of the housing you...

Re: Fluval Spec Pump Upgrade Mod! w pics!

I just did this mod and to be honest i'm not seeing much better flow. I think the problem is that there isn't enough space for the water to get around the pump housing once it is placed into the...

Re: The best bio filter media....um...ever

I use this in my Eheim 2217 and it works great. The media stays wet for a long time even out of the water. It can also be cut and shaped to fit different media baskets.

I also use this media in...

Re: CSM+B mixture is cloudy

Do you have the ratio of vinegar to solution?

For example: 5 ml of vinegar for every 250 ml of solution.

Also, I assume you are using white vinegar.

I opened my thermos of CSM+B today and discovered that it had a strange haze floating in it. I have put the recommended amount of Excel into the mixture to prevent mold. The mixture is kept in a...

Re: Black hair algae or black brush algae?

I cranked up my CO2 and cut my photoperiod and that has seemed to slow its growth. I also started adding a daily maintenance dose of excel.

One thing that annoys me is that I have to run my drop...

Re: Help identifying algae and finding a cure

I agree it does look more like hair algae. With the changes I made it seems to be held at bay and my shrimp seem to be cleaning what is left over. It looks like it is turning white instead of green...

Re: Help identifying algae and finding a cure

I did a massive trim and turned up my CO2. I turned down my photo period from 8 to 6 hours. I also replaced my root tabs. This seems to have stopped the algae growth.

Re: Help identifying algae and finding a cure

Can I reduce the photoperiod or do I need to reduce the actual intensity of the light? I'm running the finnex fugeray 20" for 8 hours per day right now.
