My 4" knife gate valve (not cheap) got in on Friday letting me make some more progress here. Getting close now.

If my thinking is correct on this setup I should be running about 12" of head...

sorry, very poor quality fish. They did not get fed enough. You can tell by how big the eyes are in relation to the body.
Feed them 3-5x's a day with high protein diet of beef...

Not sure what you mean by 3/4 ppm

Plants like 30 ppm or more. This can stress fish.

I plan on somewhere around 15 ppm and then auto dose with Seachem Excel liquid carbon to keep the plants...

I'm going for more of a quasi-biotope / river bank look. I dont want a wall of plants everywhere. So plants, but not too many plants. About only the top 1/3 or so of there overflows should be visible...
