Bamboo Shelters.
Hi, I just purchased some bamboo shelters off ebay for my shrimp tank and I was wondering if anyone has any? How do you get it to sink? I tried stacking them and throwing in some substrate inside them for a little more weight but they don't sink. Can anybody help me out?
Thanks in advanced! |
I would guess they sink naturally as they get waterlogged?

any pics?

I've seen some really neat setups with dead varnished bamboo in an old aquascaping book. I'm surprised I haven't seen any on this forum. Sorry I know that doesn't really answer your question. You just kind of reminded me of something I was going to try out. I think when I set up my shrimp jungle I'm going to give that a stab with some low light plants.

Sorry I currently don't have any pictures because I don't have a camera. Although this is the video the seller placed on his page (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh4zt...layer_embedded). I've been letting it float around my tank and its still not sinking. I have 3 of them in my tank, but I had to sort of bury the bottom portion under the substrate, but it would be nice if I could stack them and just place it above the substrate.

you might want to try tie it to a stainless steel mesh base , both ends bent and anchor it into the subsrate , i have used untreated bamboo as a decor before , but it was place vertical and i just buried it into the subsrate and rock slate to hold it down

i 2nd limzs idea. you might have to weigh it down for a while so it can get waterlogged. i just purchased a few of those bamboo shelters a few days ago. keep us posted if you figure out a way to keep them on the substrate.
