Best local shop for Farlowellas?
I have actually been a member since '03, but it has been awhile since I have posted.
Surprised to find a state-specific part of the forum, but pleased at the same time. So, I just lost my bristlenose (had him for 7 years--missing the guy) and would like to try a Twig Cat (farlowella acus/gracilis, etc) because it doesn't feel right to just 'replace him' (silly, I know). Anyone here know the best shop for these? Tulsa Aquatics has had them in the past, but don't at the moment... |
I know someone that has sturisoma royals, but don't know if she has any at the moment. My pair is sitting on eggs so it would be awhile before I would have any. You might try contacting one of the Scotts, Premier and Oddballs and see if either one can get some. I know Premier had some for awhile. He may even have some still.

I was at Premier two weeks ago and they didn't have any...
Who has Sturisomas? I've never seen those in an LFS... Every time I go to Oddballs, it's closed. I can never catch that place open. |
A friend of mine in Wagner. Are you wanting a pair or just what ever. I know she has a male she would part with. I can find out how much she wants for it and make arraignments for you.

What we both have is Royal Sturisoma Festivum, What I will do is find out how much. and make arraignments for you if you decide you want it. I can even have her to deliver it to my house as she only comes to Tulsa when her and her husband gets days off together.

I have no problem going to get it--I live in Coweta, so Wagoner is just 20 minutes or less further down H51 from me. I take it they are decent controllers of algae on plants/glass? I'm not expecting miracles, as my tank isn't over run, it just has those occasional spots (which are especially hard to get off plants like Anubias). |
By my observation they aren't much for algae eaters. They are more omnivores than anything.
If you are wanting something to help control algae I would go with otos and or bristlenose. Sturisomas are more of a lazy feeder and don't hit the algae very much. I feed mine earthworm sticks and decap brine shrimp eggs. Spirulina sticks a couple of times a week. |
Talked to her, and she said she would sell him for $20.00.

I'll keep looking around. There's a new Pet Stop in BA and they have said they may be able to order for me... |
You might also try petsmith in bixby. They are pretty good at getting things for you. Its at 126th and memorial.

However, I cannot seem to find a website for them. What are their hours? |

Thank you once again.

Well my eggs hatched and have over 20 tiny sturisomas on the glass, filter and heater. Hope they make it. They are hard to raise, that is why the price is always so steep.
