not all rams you can go by the black dot, the dorsal fin.
IF THEY have a pink belly (they are 100% without a doubt a female)
Feed them some live\frozen food - Ex. Blood Worms. - They will start to want to mate, and color up. (do a little water change with a temp difference.) - this way you can be sure.

those two look like they are both females - I would need better pictures.

The one in front is a female, as for the other one is it as dumpy as the one in front if so I would say it is a female as well but kinda looks more slender and could be a immature male even though the dorsal fin looks like a female fin . :icon_conf

Take another picture of their belly so we can get a better idea for you.

Need better pictures to be able to tell. I have also had males with blue on there black dot. The only 100% way is the red or pinkish red dot on the females belly. Just like convicts that is the only true way to tell. I have bred them before

Also everyone is saying the one in front is female. Bt all I see is a yellow belly

If you look closely, that's the fin tucked into the body that has the red on it notice the bright red and pink belly on my ram in the upper right hand corner. Female. Notice the ten fin on the bottom of the fish, left hand corner, male. http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/pH...tle=imagec.jpg

There are a few ways to sex GBRs, as previously mentioned:

1. pink stomach on female
2. black spot missing "jewels" on a male (although I have a male right now that has those jewels at the edge of his black spots, but does not have a pink stomach)
3. the black on the pectoral fins (sometimes quite pronounced on females)
4. the dorsal rays. Males typically have a couple of their dorsal rays, the 2nd/3rd IIRC, that are much longer than the others. And by much longer, I mean that: one of my males has his so long that they are laying over top of a few other rays.
5. Shape of the head. Males will typically have rounder/snubbed noses while females have elongated heads.

With that being said, just using one of the above to sex a GBR is not a good idea, although the pink stomachs have been the easiest for me --> the sub-dominant females still have some pink speckling on their stomachs IME.

Have fun with them! They are fun to watch. You may even get a pair to form while in the QT and they might hoard/take control of the clay pot, so keep an eye out :proud:

I also would like some help determining that sex my rams are, please. These are not the best pictures, but my rams do not like the camera.
The first picture is both together.

On the first picture, I believe that the left is male and the right is female. I assume the 2nd picture is the same as the 1st picture right side fish and the 3rd picture is the 1st picture left side fish.
