Anyone in pittsburgh??

I was just wondering if anyone around pittsburgh is active on here? I do see anouncements about PAPAS meetings, and i shop at the LFS where they meet but have never been able to attend any meetings. Maybe i just don't catch their members posting much on here.

Hello,
I'm a relatively new member of PAPAS, it's a good group you should definitely check it out. I also just joined GPASI and thinking about getting involved in their "AHAP program". I've seen a couple of members post on APC and here but they must all be too busy growing cool plants to post much.

PAPAS meetings are typically the first Sunday of the month @ 2:00 pm. As an officer, feel free to message me for more information about any questions you may have about the club or planted tanks. Glad to know there's another potential member out there in the area. :)

Just figured I would chime in. Am in the Pgh area and am currently setting up a 29g. planted after a long hiatus from the hobby. I had a very successful 55g planted years ago and hope to enjoy a beautiful tank once again soon.

Good to hear from you Ed. I am also in the process of setting up a tank right now (55g). Its cycling right now. I look forward to hearing about your progress.

Just in time :) Our next PAPAS meeting is this Sunday, 4/7/13. Joe Doyle will be giving a presentation on how he uses plants in his fish breeding. The meeting (should) start @ 2 pm @ Oddball Aquatics. Any questions, feel free to let me know and i look forward to seeing you there.

hi

I'm from pittsburgh with a decent amount of shrimp tanks and one 80 gallon welcome

Duck5003 04-23-2013 02:47 PM

Pittsburgh born and raised! I raise a lot of shrimp, and have a couple planted tanks.

Pittsburgh checking in! Actually just purchased a bunch of plants for my 55 on my first trip to oddball last weekend.

I'm also from Pittsburgh.

What LFS does everyone use the most? I've been to some of the big box stores in the area as well as aqua world. Aqua world had a good fish selection, but not much in the way of plants, it was pretty dirty though.

JeffyFunk 06-11-2013 12:22 AM

The three independent fish stores I recommend for plants are Oddball Aquatics in Baldwin, Elmer's Aquarium in Monroeville and Wet Pets on Rt 19 south of the mall. Oddball is my favorite since they buy plants from local hobbyist's and are also the location of our PAPAS meetings.

Fyiw, I think Aqya World is pretty dirty and would never get plants there. They r very popular with the salt water people as they often have good frags... But that was ages ago - I haven't been there in a while.

meppitech 06-11-2013 12:56 AM

I had only used oddball but recently also tried elmers and was pleasantly suprised. Prices were resonable and it was clean. It gets pretty busy tho especially on the weekends.
