What are the units of measurement? Parts per million? It does not make sense if your measurements are in German degrees.

I don't know. The chart stops at 12 drops, I used the API KH/GH tester.

It took 26 drops on the KH and 29 for the GH.

Hey, that sounds just like my water! I hate it, I'm always dumping vinegar on everything to keep the limescale at bay. Our landlord won't let us put in a water softener, for whatever convoluted reason.

I use R/O water. A lot of R/O water.

Doesn't it make seeing the fish a little difficult?

My water isn't quite that bad, but I routinely measure my tap at 17˚KH and 20-22˚GH

I always laugh a bit to myself when I see someone describe their 6-7˚ GH water as "hard" :)

You can usually buy it at your LFS.. or you can set up your own filter. They're not that expensive or difficult to install.

What do you mean you "Can't" do R/O? I plan to use R/O for a 220 gallon discuss tank, in addition to my planted 55. An R/O unit will produce 75 gallons of pure water per day. The total amount of aquarium water would be increased by another 20% or so, by "remineralizing" your RO water with some tap water. If you already have established tanks, you do not want to change the water completely to the remineralized RO water all at once anyways. You need to do gradually to avoid shocking the fish and plants. Just remember that you need to remineralize RO water by adding some tap water back into it, or by using something like GH Booster from GLA, and adding Baking Soda to raise your KH.

I've bought it from vending machines usually found in front of grocery stores. Be sure to check the maintenance log and inspection sticker. If it doesn't have one look for another. It costs $1.50 for 5 gallons here.

How do you "store" your water?
Also I thought it uses 4x the water to make, thus to get 75g of r/o water, u need 300g of reg water?

Can you further explain the process?

I used RO for a while.
Ran the RO into several garbage cans then topped off with tap water.
The garbage cans were on wheels, so moving them around the house was not a problem.
Rubbermaid Brute, and I have the 32 gallon and the 44 gallon sizes. Easier to move when half full, then I use a garden hose connected to a shower to top them off when they are in the room with the tanks.

When the RO unit died (it was very old) I gave up. My tap water is fairly soft, but the Rams wanted the RO before they would breed. Cardinal Tetras prefer the softer water, too.

One of my customers kept sea horses and used a portable RO unit to start making the water for them. He had several tanks with breeding pairs.
