What would cause a female to drop her eggs?
 

What are the various reasons why a female might drop her clutch? I'm sure there are general things like poor water quality, but are there any specific reasons, like lack of X or Y in the diet, or presence of Q or X chemical in the water?

if its a first time berry she's gonna drop eggs because the female is new to this. It's like rollerblading or snowboarding for the first time you're gonna fall.

from my experience, my female blue velvet died because she was berried and molted so then the molt got stuck to her. *The berries are stuck to the female's shell with this adhesive the female produces to keep the eggs on. *

i will vouch for poor water condition is probably the biggest reason to eggs being dropped.

i neglected my tank for months due to being not at home at all. started with 20 shrimp that never thrived... down to 6 shrimps.

now its rebouncing to 30 ish shrimp as im slowly trying to re-stablize the tank. Still not optimal as i still see eggs being dropped and they are definetly not new to holding eggs

arbai, do you have test kits for your water?

My females only drop their eggs if it's the first time, and sometimes if there are too much temperature fluctuations. I've tried putting the eggs near an air stone, didn't work for me. :(

Is it true that every first time mother drops all her eggs?

No. The most eggs first timer berried shrimp I ever witness is like half. Because they do have to use a lot of energy to hold and aerate those eggs.

Ya I would be beyond happy if half survived. Seeming like my oebt's are holding their eggs better and kind of higher up than my supreme reds. I noticed a couple eggs kinda hanging out of one of my supremes.

i do have a kit. are you curious of how bad my water conditions are atm LOL

all i know is that the tank was negletcted for months. now that i am finally home, i can actually do water changes. not doing major water changes because i dont wan't to drastically change the water parameters. did a water change maybe 2-3 weeks ago and already have a spawn of 10 + babies.

i need to do another water change again but i already have a brand new home that been cycling for a month or so that i want to drop them in there.

problem is im afraid the drastic water change will stress them too much from poor condition to great condition.

When you move them into their new home do a long drip acclimation (I normally do 4 hours but I'm anal). They should be fine.
