bladderwort care?
i am looking for a fast growing water cleaning plant for fry tanks to replace my duck weed and stumbled across bladderwort it it grows half as well as people claim i would like it, what are the light and nutrient demands of this plant ?
|
I have this plant & it doesn't seem to require much.
As long as you give it proper light for 8-10 hours it should grow on it's own.
I think I have the common variety. No real special care required. Do you have any current photos of your fry tank What type of fry? |
you WANT bladderwort?
I feel like though, that it will not grow well on its own, and that you would need another plant for it to be growing on. Hornwort or Elodea seem to work nicely for that, as do any carpet plants. |
Yeah its is pretty easy, no special requirements that i have found. I have it in some of my tanks and I like the way it grows in and out of other plants, I have relatively low light so its not too overwhelming.
If you have J moss the two work well together b/c the Bladderwort grows up faster than the moss. A lot of people consider it a weed but you know the old saying one man's weed is another man's flower! |
Which specific Bladderwort (it's not a single plant, Bladdworts are typically a collective of the Utricularia) are you talking about?
U. gibba? U. graminifolia? |
i want a water weed so that the ammonia gets absorbed and helps keep the water quality good along with pwc, the best plant ive found so far is duckweed but i dislike having it stuck to my arm so Bladderwort poped up,. i have 2 10 gallon tanks and a 20 gallon ,. ive been breeding guppies , i few Limia nigrofasciata and hopefully my pleco and white clouds will have a successful spawn soon (eggs have all disappeared so far)

as for sp. im not sure whatever i can get my hands on ,. do both flower?
|
What about guppy grass or hornwort?
|
i was thinking blatterwork would grow easyer and faster but thous may work havent had much lick with guppie grass
|
There are many, many Bladderworts. It's not just a single plant. So when you say "Bladderwort"? You're referring to a whole group of plants.
Nearly all of them flower. Quote:
