Hairy Leaves and dark green spots
Hi Everyone!
I set up a 30 gallon cube about a month and a half ago. I used floright substrate along with fert tabs. I have led lights that came with the set up. I bought it at petsmart so I really dont know much about the lights. I have threadfin rainbows and some glow light tetra in there. I do 20% water changes every week. Last week I noticed on the edges of a cpl of my plants what looks like hair. Also I wave a peice of wood in the tank and a plant tied to the top of the wood and on that plant I see hard green spots on it.. Im pretty sure this is something I dont want but not sure what Im doing wrong? Thanks for any input. patrick |
whats your lighting period?

thanks manzpants92
I have the lights on for 8 hours but it is in a bright room but no direct light from the sun |
The only real way I was able to combat that was otos, they eat it up! I stopped fighting it and just got something to eat it.

thanks ELPincheBecerra
I forgot I have 2 otos in there. I just added them this week. So Im not doing anything wrong? |
You're not necessarily doing anything wrong, but that doesn't mean you couldn't be doing something better. Looking here can help tell you what the algae means :

Thanks John
sounds like I need to buy a black molly and instead of doing weekly water changes do bi weekly changes. |
You could also add more plants. I would certainly add more ottos, like five. After a month and a half, things are still settling in. Adding more plants won't hurt and will probably help.

Thanks Razorworm I just added several more fri. Wish I would have thought to pick up more ottos. well that gives me a reason to go back :-)
