I was lookign through the forums at old stuff. i was wondering where i could get a acryclic cube shaped aquarium with a clear lid. that would be really cool to make a nano ecosystem. do you know where i can get other "weird" shaped aquariums?

Glass Cages makes a lot of odd sizes or can make anything you want.

I've wanted to make a wide and long but shallow tank for a while and have been thinking of just making it from 1/4" acrylic from Home Depot. You use Weldon, a glue that actually fuses the parts together and makes them one. Takes a little practice, but it would be neat to say you made it yourself. And a small nano tank would be a nice low-risk first attempt.

Heh.. This is why I am thankful that there is an aquarium manufacturing company/factory here where I live... It makes it easy to get custom sizes cheap....

Petsmart carries a cube aquarium around here. It looks to be 30-40 gallons.

Boutique Pets on Garland Road carries them.

AquaBotanic has a nice 12 gallon cube with built in filtration and a 25 watt PC plant light. They are pretty inexpensive at $99

You won't find a cube that cheap.

not even 2 gallons? i guess im going to have to go with the 1 gallon hex.

Rex Grigg 08-08-2003 11:45 PM

Nope. There are very few cube tanks available.

My suggestion would be to look around Wal Mart, Linens and Things, and any other place that carries nic nac foo foo crap. You are bound to find a glass or acrylic cube somewhere that is used for some other reason. Then just make sure it is water-tight or can be made so. A bead of aquarium safe silicone would do wonders as long as there are no substantial gaps in the seams.

That is about the only way to find one for under $20. Of course you would have to build a hood and add your own filter. But if you are stuck on the cube aquarium idea it could be done relatively cheaply.
