Good stores in MN
 

Hey im new to the TC and want to know where you local people go to find good fish. I know of the stand by petco and petsmart yet i want goold LFS. I have been to world of fish and other then that, thats about it. Thanks much.

A few blocks west of A World of Fish is Something Fishy, which is not quite as big, not quite as expensive, and generally has better looking fish. Maybe not as many plants, but all in all, I much prefer Something Fishy.

There's also a huge place out in Forest Lake. I can't remember the name, but it's on the main drag on the west side of the street. Pretty nondescript name and storefront, but the back fish room is insanely huge. It's worth a drive to check it out.

World of Fish is great for finding fish that the others don't always have. There are good days and bad days to be there though.

Forest Lake Pets is north of the TC, you take 35W. Can't remember how far, maybe an hour? I hear it's great, haven't been there myself.

My favorite store all the way around is Aqualand on Chicago Ave in south Minneapolis. It's a big store, very well stocked, great employees. Nice healthy fish.

I only went to Something Fishy once. It appears to be mostly marine. They had some freshwater fish but they were all in the lower tanks where you have to practically get on your knees to see them. I wasn't terribly impressed with the selection but maybe there were more that I just didn't feel like crawiling around to find. :icon_bigg

I'm suprised no ones mentioned Terre Quatics. It's out in Osseo, on first street. I'll look up the address later. They have alot of stuff I've never seen or heard of before, thats generally pretty new to the hobby. Found some amazing dwarf cichlids there, anubias nana petit, and home grown red cherries for 10 bucks a pop.

I liked Terre Quatics okay, I just went there once. It's a small place but he does keep an interesting selection. Lots of nice freshwater shrimp too. He's growing Bee shrimp now and he also had pinochio's and wood shrimp recently.

I was a little taken aback that he was keeping blue lobsters in several tanks and letting them eat juvenile angels...but he has a lot of angels so I guess that's one way to get rid of few extra. :icon_conf

Pooky that's a bummer you had to pay that much for the shrimp though. I'm overrun with the little buggers, I beg people to take them,lol!

Yeah, last time I was there, was.. wow, quite a while ago. He had some absolutally amazing checkerboard cichlids. After doing a little research on them, I'll never get them, but boy were they prett.

I didn't get any shrimp from him. Couldn't bring myself to by them for that price. Tho, if your looking to get rid of some, I'll happily take them off your hands.

The best fish store in Minnesota is Forrest Lake Pets.

I've been to Aquatropics, World of Fish.. Forrest Lake Pets has a massive fish room and tons of plants.

aqualand is a good one was there this weekend for the first time.a wet pet is a good one too.forest lake pet shop has to be my favorite,lots of healthy and odd fish. :proud: nina

Just re-opened, Ocean Devotion formally sea dreams in Savage 4078 W CR 42
about 60/40 salt to fresh. But there fish are great quality!! beautiful Red Rainbows nice German Rams (small though) and beautiful Congo tetras. . .Oh wait I bought them today:icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Ed formally from something fishy (just down the street from WOF) is the manager and the owner is a good guy too but I cant remember his name:icon_redf
Not a lot of plant stock, mostly grasses, swords and onion plants But I spoke with Ed today and he would like to get a "plant following" there before he gets into the plants in depth. and starts giving store credit for plants. I traded in some fish and got a way better deal than WOF. So my recommendation is if you have extra trimmings and might want to add a new fish or two go pay them a visit and you will most likely walk out happy, I know I did!:hihi: :hihi:

OUt in the western suburbs theres The Fish Guy on co19 just west of Excelsior. Small store with herps an dog food. He specializes in SW but has a standard stock of fresh. Fish usually seem healthy when i go in there for RO water.
The pet store in excelsior (Noahs Ark Pets i think its called) is not too bad for a seriously small place. the manager there will pretty much order any request and can get fish on a 1 day notice. I like this option because i can pretty much just get them right from the supplier without having them go into the store tanks.
Aqualand is called something else now i think. they got new owners as the last one pretty much let it rot for many years. Its starting to look better.

Yeah, the formerly Aqualand in Hopkins is now owned by John, one of the long time employees. It is now called "Sea Level". He is a nice guy and the place is looking a ton better.

Always excellent stock and they usually have a few rarities. I like them because they hold fish for a while before they allow them for sale. Also, they order reasonable amounts of fish so they do not get so stressed like the places that order wholesale quatities and jam 150 fish in a 15 gallon. Also, the owner is very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, not a lot of plants. But, I do not buy plants for LFS's anymore. I do not like going that transistion period when the plants convert from the emersed from the LFS's get them in to the submerged form. Also, you only need to but the basic plants once then yoy have too many anyways.

My last five plant purchases have been from other hobbyists off the Aquatic plant central boards. 4 excellent experiences, one bad one.

Do they sell germans at a Wet Pet? That is like 3 minutes from my house
