Aquascaping 40 Gallon Breeder

I got a 40 breeder for christmas and now I'm trying to figure out how to scape it. I think I want to have a piece of branchy driftwood (maybe manzanita) coming from the left side of the tank. I want it to branch out towards the right and then on the driftwood i would plant some java fern to kind of follow the contour of the branches. That's all I've got so far, it's far from concrete so any other ideas are welcome. So if you have suggestions on other woods and plants and anything else thanks.

I tend to have a chaotic plant farm approach in the beginning of the tank.

Currently looks like

Check out some Dutch style tanks. I think a 40B lends itself towards that style. Tom Barr (Plantbrain) has a great example in the Tank Journal section.
