some plants great - others have brown spots/melting see through leaves

Hello all,

The 36 gallon in my sig, as you can see it is very green - love that part.

Just wondering if I am missing something obvious that some plants (supposed to be easy, low tech) struggle tremendously in this tank. For example - Amazon Swords never make it (turn clear and fade away) and Moneywort - brown spots and stunted.

I expected 'difficult' plants to have trouble, like Asian water fern Bolbitis heteroclita, but not staple low tech stuff.

The details:

- weekly water changes with very soft well water. (a little bit of naturally occurring nitrate in the water, under 20). water treated with:
- remineralized to about 3 hardness with Seachem Stability
- a good sized pinch of calcium clay
- cap of Seachem Flourish Comp
- 5 ml of Tetra Flora Pride
- Gut/Excel daily (No comperssed Co2)

Substrate - Eco-complete with root tabs

critters - Platies, moliies, rosy barbs, fat & happy ottos, Juli Cories, amano & cherry shrimp. way too many pond snails, some Ramshorns, and the survivors of an early disaster - 2 pygmy cories and 3 chili rasbora.

Plants - almost anything that wants to grow in here :)

Light - Finnex Fugeray, 30"

Anything obvious that I could be missing? Still going to stay to the low-tech side, no EI dosing or anything like that.

Thanks All!

Excel kills some plants, and I'm pretty sure the plants you mentioned are among them.
