How should an onion plant be planted?

I just bought one and Im unsure how to plant it. I killed my banana plant because I buried it :(

I would bury as much of it as is needed to keep the plant stable. Generally, half of the bulb should be visible above the substrate. Onion plants are hardy though, and your banana plant may have died due to other reasons, since I buried mine and they have been taking off where nothing else has been.

consider a permanent placement. they hate to be moved around. i had mine died because of that.
