cherry shrimp reproducing

do females eventaully stop producing eggs or produce less eggs as they're older? just wondering because i have a female i've had for a while who was mature when i got her and she hasn't berried since i got her. could be lack of males? but idk still a question do they produce less eggs eventually?

females only carry their eggs (berried) when they've been fertilized. Without a male to fertilize them, a female will never become "berried".

I think the question was if egg production lessens, slows down or stops.

Has not happened t mine, however I *have* read that older fems sometimes stop producing depending on their age. (There is also the case of inbred depression, but I don't think that is what you are talking about.)

The OP implies that there are no males available, in which case he will never see eggs, only saddles. In this case, the question of whether or not mature females still produce eggs is moot. I think there is a cause and effect issue with his original observations of why he's not seeing berried females. It has nothing to do with their age. A tank full of females that are just entering their brooding age will never show eggs either if there is no male present to fertilize them.

You could be right in reading the OP, however I read "could be lack of males?" heh I don't think he meant there were none and expected the female shrimp to spontaneously reproduce, rather that there may not be enough. However I will wait for inthepacific to make himself more clear.
