Divided tank-What do you think?
 

I’m thinking of dividing one 40 long tank in 3 sections. It will house 3 grades of crystal shrimps.
All comments are welcome.

It's possible and some people do, I've done it. I've went back to single tanks myself. 1 bacteria infection in section 1 can take out sections 2 and 3 in days.

Bacteria are problem but if the shrimps are strong they should be OK.
Do you have individual tools for every single tank? If not, how you will stop infection to spread around?
Probably nobody wash his hands between feeding or maintain his/her/ next tank?
Probably only Donna has net, pipettes, tester, hose etc. in large numbers.

Heck, I wash my hands before I feed each individual tank and have separate tools for them. As far as stopping infection from spreading if you only have one set of tools, a good wipe down with vinegar and rinse after every use should get tackle most bacteria I would think. I wipe my tools down with vinegar and rinse before and after I use them. Doesn't matter if they are used for just one tank or not I just like my tools to be clean.

HAhaha....oh...I think I have a clinical problem with my shrimp obsessiveness. LOL! I wash my hands stringently before I feed even my bettas though. HA!

did it, shrimps climbed over/under/thru sides slits that you would never think they could fit thru, but eventually I just took out the dividers and let them have the whole tank. :mad:

I had sponge filters in each of the sections to keep each one well filtered and biofilm to develop for each one. Unless you glue the sections to the sides and have the top above water the shrimps will find a way to get into each one....total waste of time. Now just keep separate tanks for the different grades.

Ya, what Anna said I found too. They find a way over, under, through. Especially when a female drops her scent and males in the other compartments get a whiff, they go nuts and find a way to her. Babies found ways around it too, no mater how much you think it's sealed, I would see yellow babies in the PFR side and vice versa. lol.

I had mine set up with about 3/4 of an inch of mesh above the surface, about a 3-4mm from the lid, and the shrimps climbed up and over as soon as a female was about to molt.

I try to never put my hands in. Haha. But when i do i dont wash my hands because im scared soap will find its way in my tank. When you guys wash your hands you guys use soap?

And they will find a way out/in. I put in a breeding box in my 20gal and found a crs in it the next day. Only way it could have gone in there is it climbed out of the water.... Wierd.

That divided tank would look really cool, but the shrimp will definitely find a way to hurdle over your dividers. The stainless mesh will act like a ladder.

You can test it out for a 30-60 days. Put some plants in each section, add the shrimp in the center part of the tank. See if any of them can make it past your custom dividers.

The babies will DEFINITELY find a way to get through unless you seal the edges dividers with silicone.

Yes, I use dawn fish soap. Just rinse your hands off good, not that hard.

Dawn fish soap? What isle is that in? Cleaning products or seafood?
