Direct Sunlight
 

Hello;

Is Direct Sunlight bad or good on planted tanks? Am currently fighting an algae invasion which I am writing in my thread here.

The only bad things I can think of are heat from direct sunlight and algae growth due to a wide range spectrum. But the good could be plant growth due to high lumen values which can't be achieved by cheap lights. :confused1:

In general, direct sunlight is to be avoided.

There are issues such as overheating, too much light, uncontrollable light (intensity and duration), non-reliable light (clouds, etc).

Hide the substrate from light with duct tape(on the outide of the tank, of course.) Vals make a great live-in window blind, as well.
