Fertilizing advice
Hi, I'm pretty new to planted tanks and I have a few questions. First does it matter when I dose my KNO3 & KH2PO4? What I mean is, Are they ok to be dosed at the same time? Also does it matter how soon after I dose these the light comes on?

Same question for my Seachem Flourish.

I have heard that I should dose My Seachem Excel before my lights come on. Is it ok If I dose it 4-6 hours before?

Thank you for your help and advice.

You can dose KNO3 & KH2PO4 together and time of day doesn't matter. They will stick around until they are used up.

Same with Flourish.

The only two fertilizers that you have to be careful of adding around the same time are ones that have a high iron concentration and a high phosphate concentration. This can form a insoluble iron salt that will precipitate out in your water column.

I had not heard that with excel , but no longer use the product so am not the right person to ask.

That's great. Thanks for the help.

I have another question. Should I dose my dry ferts the same day as my flourish or should I spread it out over the week?

One method of dosing calls for dosing daily, but alternating what you dose:
3 days per week (mon-wed-fri, perhaps) dose N, P and K
3 days per week (tue-thu-sat perhaps) dose micro nutrients.

Dosing that often, you would not need to dose very much at any one time.
There is no problem in dosing the whole week's supply on one day, I would simply dose N, P, and K on one day, and micros the next to avoid the precipitation mentioned above.

There is no specific time of day to dose these.

I understand Excel breaks down over time, thus the suggestion that morning is better than evening to dose this. Only a suggestion, though. Dose whenever is best for you so you keep on a regular schedule is better than trying to meet an impossible schedule and skipping the dosing.

All times are GMT. The time now is 11:32 PM.
