Nice DW for a amazon biotope
 

Wondering if anyone had suggestions as to nice driftwood to use for a amazon biotope. I have some manzanita but am really liking the leaf litter with smaller twigs and branches. Would I be able to use local branches of say Oak trees or other trees? Anyone have some info on this would be appreciated.

Oak will work in an aquarium.
It leaches a lot of tannins.
The finer the branches the faster it rots (any wood).
Manzanita also has fine twigs, if you like that.

The problem with using unknown wood is the possible toxins. The best ways to deal with that are 2- age the wood, alternately soaking and drying, or boiling it.
Either of these are not great things to do to fine twig-sized material. It starts to fall apart. Start with a wood that is known to be non-toxic.

Thank you. I'm going to look into getting some oak branches to test out. I don't have much access to many manzanita branches so Oak it is for now.
