Complete novice 15 gallon
I started this tank before I really read anything about keeping a planted tank, all I knew was that I wanted plants "because they are good"
Its a small scale guppy and shrimp breeding tank, the guppies are donated to a LFS and I sell the shrimp myself. Its been up and running since mid august, seeded with the rocks, filter and decorations from an old 30 litre tank. so shows this is tracking the starting point, to how its looking right now.
I have no idea what the large plant in the centre is, as it was donated by a friend, all I know its its quite a popular snack with the guppies.
I don't use Co2 as I have no space to run it, and Im only just starting to look into fertilisers. Has anyone got any advice as to how to get this looking really good, or just comments on what Im doing right/wrong.
I know there are a few other fish (minnow, a platty, black skirt) but I am providing them a temporary home for a friend that is the process of moving house
The tank looks pretty good so far. Sorry can't comment on ferts or anything never have used any before.
Thank you, don't worry about the ferts, I've been reading most of the afternoon at work and still feel none the wiser.
After staring a the tank long enough I decided that I needed more greenery. The big plant (I have no idea what it was but the guppies thought it was delicious) came out, and was replaced by rocks and I went a little nuts with the planting. Since I'm not 100% on what I'm doing I took a scatter gun approach of sticking a load of stuff in there and seeing what sticks.
I still have the temporary lodgers who seem to have settled in nicely, and the shrimp are waiting to go back in, as I moved them to the 30 liter while I was planting, and I have found that they can get a bit stressed when I move things around.
I trimmed back the weeping moss from the cave as I needed some for the bowl Im putting together, and it seems to be growing really quickly in this tank so I figured it would regrow well enough.
Still need a background for it but I made the mistake of telling my wife she could pick one, which means that it may be well into next year before she finds one she is happy with.
