pwolfe's 45-f (Rescape!!)

This project has been a long time in the making and as I await my final plant order to arrive, I decided I would start progress thread for this tank.

This tank is meant as an upgrade to my existing 5.5g that houses my wifes beloved betta 'agh' (pronounced OCK). It means white in her language...he was named in petco under crappy lights where he appeared to be a white betta. He is in fact blue.

So anyways, here are some specs for the 45f

tank: 45f
filtration: eheim 2213 with gush glassware
lighting: diy led
co2: paintball tank with gla inline diffuser
substrate: amazonia powder type
hardscape: yamaya and branch wood
diy stand

plants:

HC, hygro kompakt, hygro araguaia, fissidens, flame moss, mini pelia, anubias micro, anubias nana petite, bacopa (unknown sp), hydrocotle.

livestock:

one spoiled rotten betta

here is the tank thats being upgraded:

and here is the new tank with a rough hardscape plan:

I still have to get a diy stand fabricated for the light to hang from as well as receive my final plant shipments. I hope to get this project planted and moving by this coming weekend. I'll be posting more pictures when I dont risk waking my newborn son.

Thanks to all those forum members I recently purchased plants from and big thank you to Frank from ADG for letting me come and rummage through piles of hardscape materials in the warehouse while answering all my questions!

Lighting is almost complete!

Made the light hanger out of copper and painted it.

I wont be finishing the light itself until tomorrow as I need to get an appropriate sized heat shrink to do it to my satisfaction, but here are the specs on the light:

4 xpg cool whites, 3 xpg neutral whites using rapidled's new solderless led's. Each color will be run on its own dimmable driver at up to 700ma. I havent decided whether I will be using 40 or 60 degree optics yet, I imagine I'll end up with a mix of both. The fixture currently sits 20 inches from where the substrate will be.

on to the pics!

All my plants arrived today, so I doubled down and completed the light, planting, and everything. I can imagine you all now whats going on in the pics so I'll skip being wordy and just post the pics, well what pics I can. For some reason photobucket won't let me upload all of my pics. I'll post pics of it all flooded when I figure it out.

Are the optics on the leds? If so, which ones did you use?

pwolfe 08-23-2012 06:37 AM

I ended up using 60 degree throughout. I probably could have gone no optics, but the light spill was just too much for my tastes.

Quick question to OP: are you Left handed? The reason I ask is I'm right handed and the focal point of scapes that are off centered to the left look more appealing to me. I wonder if it looks more appealing to the right for left handers? Maybe a dumb question but I was always curious about that.
