Ultra cheap but effective acclimation device
I was going to acclimate my new shrimp today and then I came out with this idea. I haven't seen it before so I thought I share...
First, I started with an used emptied gallon of water and a disposable cup:
Shrimp are already in the gallon.
I used this thumbtack to make a very small hole on the cup, it should be very small and you might have to try with several cups until you get the right amount of water drip. I was able to get it to 2 drops per second.
The trick here is that you should be able to hang the cup on the border of the gallon just by placing it on top (I didn't use any type of glue or tape). I believe that not all plastic cups will work, but most of them has the right space on that top border.
The bottom line - I had to refill the cup on an average of four times per hour. I didn't wait for the cup to empty completely before refilling because water will stop dripping when the amount in the cup is really low. I used a second cup to do the refills, therefore leaving the first cup in place at all times.
I was surprised on how well it resisted movements of the table I was working on. I tested myself kicking or shaking the table a little and didn't had any issues with the cup falling into the gallon.
maybe its just me but the pics dont work
Works for me. I just use some airline tubing the the regulating valve and a tupperware container. Make sure the tupperware is lower than the height of the water in the tank and gravity does the rest. You can fine tune the drops per second with the regulating valve as well. Of course I had everything spare on hand.
A very nice way of acclimating your shrimp. Makes the fear of forgeting them with drips running go away
