6 - Stalks of Limnophila hippuroides
8 - Stalks of Anacharis
2 - Anubias Nana
I plan on getting a few Jungle Vals, 3-4 Amazon Swords, and a few others....
Do you know what type of kitty litter you are using yet??
I will be using Special Kitty: Natural Cat Litter
So it's taking me longer than expected to get this set up and running, I just finished up the stand reinforcement. But this afternoon I came across some tree trimmers that were cutting down an old oak tree, so they let me take as much of the branches I wanted. So I now got some good pieces to form some new driftwood pieces for the tank.
Just finished up with getting stand all worked out.
Here's the inside of the stand
Here's the cat litter I'll be mixing with the dirt
So tonight I'll start getting the dirt mixed with the cat litter, and some first layer pure laterite, then get it into the tank. Then I can cap it with 1" of play sand, then it's time to start the aqua scape of the tank, and putting any driftwood, rocks, etc......
Then tomorrow will be the final additions by adding the plants from my rimless 6 gallon edge into this setup, and then fill the tank and see what needs to be done with any of the aqua scape, and then get the filters running on the tank.
I've decided to use my DIY inline Co2 reactor w/ my DIY Co2 setup, it'll be used in junction with my Magnum 350 canister filter so it'll spread throughout the tank.
Have fun washing out that cat litter. I bought a bag yesterday and messed around with a couple pounds of it just to see how it held up....it was dirtyyyy. Eventually cleaned right up. I think I'm going to go with the cat litter bottom with gravel top.
Yeah mine was dirty as he**, but I only used maybe 1-2lbs. of it along with half a box of first layer of pure laterite, and mixed it into my topsoil. I'm still messing around with some of the driftwood pieces for the tank, got this nice branch of an old oak tree that looks amazing in my tank. But I got it sitting out while the GE Silicone I is drying, cause I sealed it onto a good size rock to keep it from floating up and destroying the soil bottom layer.
Then I may check out what other pieces of the oak tree will look good in the tank. I'll take some pictures tomorrow so you can see how the tank looks at this time.
Here's the initial setup, I still need to hook up the Magnum 350 canister filter, and mix up a new batch of Co2. Hoping that the Dwarf Sag has a good take, and starts getting runners so the left front of the is filled in nicely.
55 gallon acrylic dirt tank (new pics 2/22)
Here's some new pics of the tank, added 3 small Amazon Swords to the mix, and my Dwarf Sag is starting to fill in a bit with all new growth.
So here are some new pictures of the tank with all the new plants
Looking pretty good.
Thanks, I'm using it as a holding tank until I can get my 100 gallon tank set up, then I can hook up my metal halide fixture, and get a Co2 injection system.
Today I picked up two 8" Anubias Nana's, and two 8" Java Ferns for the tank. Also picked up 5 Peppered Corydoras for $1 a piece. I'll take some new photos tomorrow after I get the plants situated, and the tank calms down.
I added some root tabs under the plants in some areas just to give the soil an extra boost ;) Here's some new pics of the tank
