Anyone in the Miami / Ft Lauderdale area?
 

Thought there would be more hobbyists in the region, but this state's forum is pretty dead :)

I'm down in Kendall. I guess it's just the two of us..

I live across the alley in Ft. Myers, but if something is going on I can just get in my car and drive a bit. Count the sawgrass leaves on the way there.

Are there any local clubs? All I could Google out was a marine.

I'm in the South Miami area. I also thought that there would be more local groups because of how active the aquarium trade is here but sadly its not.

There is this:http://www.floridaaquaticplantsociety.org but its not very active. You can also visit Gold Coast Aquarium Society. There are a few guys that go there that are into plants and they always have plants in their auctions, but its a bit far of a drive for me, and I haven't been very active in the hobby lately.

It is surprising given our locale. Was hoping to find a closer group to trade/give fish/plants. Might check out gold coast, bit of a drive though.

I am in Fort Lauderdale! I have smaller tanks and stuff but I would be interested in meeting up for some trades and stuff!!

I am not sure if it is the state or just that people that are into this are simply not on this forum or forums in general. Seems like everyone I meet is into salt water and those that are into fresh water do not take it to this level.

FL west coast is definitely more relaxed, and Lauderdale/Keys. Miami's more of a clubber/vacationer's city than a sit down and plant your fish tank city.

Since a few of us are here now - what local places do you guys like? I'm in Oakland Park to be exact AND a new little freshwater place just opened up! Its called 'The Planted Tank', its a small place on Dixie highway, owned by a husband/wife - they are super nice and helpful. Carry a great selection of plants and freshwater fishes... As of right now they don't have anything saltwater and I am excited about that. it's my new favorite place!! None of my friends are interested in this hobby which is hard. Its nice to know there's some locals around!

In a tiny apartment so all I have are nanotanks and microfish/inverts. Once the fauna starts breeding I'll have a couple things to trade/RAOK. Think my platies are about to give birth again.

I heard about that 'The Planted Tank' place and have been meaning to check it out. Good to hear it is pretty decent.

Also if you haven't checked out this place Neighborhood fish farm it is great for fish and plants, they don't have very much equipment. And if they don't have the plant you are looking for they can special order you anything from Florida Aquatic Nurseries.

What's the minimum order @ FAN? Wholesale only right?

Yea you have to have an account with them to order directly. That's why I order my stuff through Neighborhood.
