Lets go pygmies.... :D
This week I have the following coming in:
danio choprae, batik nerites, gertrudae rainbows, bumble bee shripm, amanos, and dario hysginon :) Next week I hope to get c. habrosus
Do you have pictures of any of these? Malawa shrimp? Bumblebee shrimp? Indian white banded shrimp?
any chance of getting some c. hastatus?
Also, would love to be able to get my corys to breed... any pointers? :P
Most of what I keep has pics in my photo gallery :)
As for breedign cories, which species are you working with?
Hastatus I order all the time, they always come in as pygmaeus or habrosus. Honestly, habrosus are my favorite of the three for behavior adn coloring.
pygmaeus half way gone! Get 'em while they are hot! :)
Holding out for some Dario hysginon :)
They are not coming in today, unfortunately. Because of the hurricane, my order did not ship into NYC (airports were shut down). I will order again this week to try and get the thigns i mentioned.
Hope you have some more cories in a couple of months when the new tank is all set up...or at least some dwarf chain loaches!
We've both habrosus and hastatus and would love to get them to breed! Myself I think the habrosus are super cute, but like that the hastatus are a bit more mid-level than the habrosus. And they're tiny!!
So any pointers for either would be great! Thanks again!
Feeding something like cyclops or baby brine to condition seems to really get them int eh mood. Despite them being small cories, it really takes awhile for them to get to sexual maturity. You know they are when its obvious who is male and female as the females are substantially bigger than the males and much more round in appearance. After they have been conditioned for a week on live/frozen meaty foods, I do a few large volume water changes and pump up the oxygen levels.
Sounds good! We'll give it a shot!
I've definitely seen with our habrosus that a few of them have gotten quite rotund... but have you noticed with the hastatus that the females get very round as well?
Thanks so much! Will report back if we are successful :)
I have never kept hastatus long term enough to say, genearlly I get them in, qt, and send them out still at subadult size. Habrosus and pygmaeus are the only ones that I have kept over a span of a few years (the same groups) and have spawned. I have spawned lots of full sized cories as well. Hastatus just don't do it for me, not sure why!
i want some micro crabs soooo bad, but i must refrain untill payday :/
