Journal: Glenn's 75 Gallon - "Why Not Goodness?"

I don't normally do Journals anymore because I just don't have time, but I want to try again.

Been a long haul to get here. The day was nuts and one of my best friends showed up in the clutch late night to drive this tank home with me. Took me all day just to get to the planting. My floor was so out of whack it took me an hour just to level the stand. Doors are screwed up a bit and need to be shaved.

Enough of the intro, lets get on to the tank!

It has been entitled:

"Why Not Goodness?"

Basic Specs:

Tank: 75 gallon - 48" wide x 18" wide x 18" high

Lighting: Catalina Solar T5 High Output 4x54Watt with LED moonlights

Filtration: (2) Rena XP3

CO2: Pressurized up your wazzo with a water filter housing reactor

Flora: There are a few I am not sure of in there. May try to ID them over time.
Vallisneria americana
Cryptocoryne spiralis
Cryptocoryne spiralis Var Dwarf
Cryptorocyne Wendtii Red
Cryptorocyne Wendtii Bronze
Cryptorocyne Wendtii Green
Cryptorocyne Wendtii Green Gecko
Cryptocoryne crispatula 'Balansae'
Cryptocryne Wendtii hybrids (multiple kinds in there)
Cryptocoryne usteriana x walkeri (I think)
Misc other species.....
Soon to be added Microsorum pteropus "Narrow Leaf" ala Wasserpest

Fauna: No idea.

Hardscape: Manzanita

And now the spill...

Still seeing wood (you can see the one door that warped slightly in this photo. Driving me nuts!!)

Strip some plant stock from the grow out tanks
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...0022Medium.jpg

Make a mess.

Moss the wood, start planting the tank.
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...0024Medium.jpg

Plant tank with lots more plants, then fill with water. (De-chlorinated of course because that's how I roll)

Stare at cloudy water and pray it comes out ok

Everything else to come later. If you will notice I modified the hardscape slightly as I went through.

I am happy so far. Clear picture to come soon.

Nice glenn... looks good.

What is the your substrate cap? Looks different.

LoL @ 'laying wood'. An hour leveling the stand? "Jersey Floor", heh.

Carib Sea Peace River. I like it alot.

Jersey floor, umm, yes. Was an absolute nightmare. 1960's construction at its finest. If I showed you the shims you would laugh (And I will not show them!). Stable though.

macclellan 03-21-2011 12:35 AM

I like it too (Carib Sea Peace River). Mental note taken. I might get a few bags of that to 'chill out' my "Mystic White" pool filter sand.

Wait, the shims are worse than in photo #2 above? Jeez, that IS bad.

lauraleellbp 03-21-2011 12:38 AM

Yeah yeah- DIY stand isn't level, blame it on the floors, we've all heard THAT before!

*ducks and runs*

It's going to look fantastic, Glenn!

NyteBlade 03-21-2011 12:43 AM

Did the beer come with the plants too Glenn?
I never get that lucky... :D

Carib Sea used to make an even better substrate color that was a bit lighter in tone, but the discontinued it. Real heartbreaker for me. This stuff is the closest comparison and its nice. I have a bunch of the others too in my basement just sitting there. I totally took advantage of a "no shipping charge" on Drsfostersmith and made them pay in substrate a few years ago. LOL.

Yes, the shims in the back right corner are just about 1/2". The wall the tank is against is not supported right with the foundation right below. (Yes, foundation below). Its a nightmare, but I have reinforced and supported everything that needs to be prior to doing this tank.

I know where Florida is. Ducking only puts you under water when the tide comes in sweetheart.

Are you Chuck Norris, who can fit 75g in a 67g tank, or did you mean 48"x"18"x20"? :D

I have Chuck Norris'd a few in my day here. :icon_cool

But I was considering the 18"(-) clear space of visual on the height.
