riccia not pearling
I have a nice lawn off riccia growing in my tank which is lovely and healthy, but i read off peoples riccia pearling why doesnt mine, apart from that it is growing nicely.
kh 3-4 degrees ph 7.2-7.4 nitrites 0 nitrates0 phosphates0 i am running bottle off co2 which is always at its optimum level, i have fertileser substrate, under gravel heating , 5 dennerle 42 inch t8 tubes and add weekly ferts and also do a 25% water change every 2 weeks. What else can i do!! |
how big is your tank?
at those specs kh 3-4 ph 7.2-7.4 you are getting okay co2 levels in you water but not optimum...this is according to this chart http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/co2-dietsch.gif |
Get your Nitrates up to 10 ppm and your Phosphates to 0.5 ppm, weekly water change of 40 to 50% is better than every two weeks.

how do i get my nitrates up?? and phosphates i thought the idea was to have them at 0
the tank is 75 uk gallons |
I didn't start getting regular pearling in my tank until I switched from DIY CO2 to pressurized and got my CO2 levels >20 ppm. Also, my current 'regular' pearling is usually noticeable in the evenings when I get home from work, but not in the mornings when the light turns on.

Hello Danny
For NitrAtes use Potassium Nitrate KNO3, and for Phosphates use Mono Potassium Phosphate KH2PO4, or Fleet enema... I'm not sure if greg ships to the UK, I have sent him and email asking him just that, so will know soon. with a plant tank you want a target range of 10:1 ratio Nitrate to Phosphate. http://www.gregwatson.com/products.asp?cat=8 Quote:

Got an e-mail back from Greg:
>>Hello Greg Couple of questions 1) Do you ship to the UK? Yes … I have setup a mirror site at http://www.PMDDStore.com which ships via the Post Office for all international shipments … So you can get all your Nutrients shipped to your door :) |
