My first container pond (pics added 5/6/08)

I'm starting a 140 gal container pond. So far it's going to have dwarf cattail, hyacinth, a hardy lily, either horsetail or zebra rush, dwarf papyrus or an umbrella palm. Does this sound good? Any other recommendations for plants? The dimensions are 55"x38" and 20" deep. How many goldfish could I keep in here? Or what other fish do you recommend? Any help is great for this is my first endeavor into ponds, albeit a very small one.

I added a few pictures. The lily is yellow but the camera didn't pick it up very well.

Looks nice to me!

You could toss in a few dozen feeder goldfish easily I'd bet. Say half make it over the winter....... maybe a dozen to start.

OR you could do guppies for the summer, that would be cool. You might have to take them out over the winter and keep a few and sell the rest.

I ended up putting in 5 goldfish. They are 2 shubunkin, three sarassa and some mosquitofish. The goldfish are about 3 in. The major cost was buying the tub. It cost $150. I looked for months for a used one but couldn't find one that would work like I wanted. I probably spent around another $100 on the plants, pump and a homemade internal filter. I am pretty satisfied on how it has turned out so far. I added my uv sterilizer to it to help clean up the green water. The is also some elodea and hornwort in there.

Looks nice.
don't add any more fish than that and you'll be fine.
what's your filtration?

I got the tank from the lfs. Here is a link to the company that sells them.

http://www.tufftubs.com/

It would have been about $20 cheaper to order it through them but I decided to give the lfs my business.

I would love to see some pics or a discription of your filter. The reason I ask is you said it was homemade and I am curious as to what you did. Thanks
