Algae help for mother-in-law

I was talking to my MIL about putting a light color substrate in her pond to contrast more with her fish (1 oscar, 6 or so Koi, couple of black fish..can't remember what they are). She said she has white rocks at the bottom, but the algae is so bad that it looks like bare pond bottom with a white rock here and there!!

No idea what she has for filters or anything.

She would like some kind of algae eating fish. Oh, the pond size...not sure...it's about 8 feet long and 4 feet wide with 2 waterfalls. It's beautiful. I'll have to get some pictures.

So, what gets along with koi and an oscar or two? The Oscar doesn't bother anybody at all. He's an odd bird, too. That's a whole 'nother story.

Common pleco. They kick off below 55 degrees or so, but with plenty of space and FOOD they won't harass other fish.

i would recommend rubberlip plecos.
First, they are cold water pleco. Secondly, they wont bother other fish. Lastly, stay in small size and much more active.

Small size? I found out her pond is 3000-3500 gallons. She couldn't remember which. I was going to try to find a common Pleco that has outgrown his home.

i thought you just need to clean up algae

If you also like the idea of big fish, then get yourself a common pleco, which I wont recommend because they will turn into carnivore when matured

I do. I was just questioning if the small sized critter could clean a 3000 gallon pond.

but the big common pleco wont bother eating algae either. I had a 11 inches one, which is so unactive. He did nothing but sit at the bottom. I only feed him bloodworm. He seemed not to care about the algae in the tank anymore.

As a result, i bought a pair bristlenose, which is way more active
