A little help with crypt. balansae

I have 3 crypt. balansae plants, and they're very healthy and beautiful. The problem is that each plant refuses to grow more than 5 leaves at a time. When I move any of them, some leaves will melt away, and the plant promptly grows new leaves. Once it reaches 5 leaves though...no more growth!! Does anyone have any insight about this?

I love this plant SO much, and I really want to have a thick balansae "forest" in the corner. Kinda hard to do that with only 5 leaves

Also, I've had these plants for a year now, but I haven't seen any runners!

What kind of substrate does your tank have? Adding a root tab to base of the crypt may help spur some growth. But 5-7 leaves are typical for C. crispatula var balansae.

I have very coarse sand as a substrate, and I supplement with root tabs. Hmm. I guess this means that I should look for some extra plants on the swap n shop

And you need to stop moving them around, too.

The only reason I moved them is because I moved from Canada to Virginia. Oh, then I moved them a 2nd time to set up my new tank. But that was it, I promise!
