Leaf shape often varies due to tank conditions. How are the new leaves growing in? Trident or narrow?

Mine starts off looking like a needle leaf and will split as it gets larger and matures.

Not knowing the genetic origin of Trident, I wonder if it is a "sport" aka "mutated" form of the narrow leaf? The behaviour of both traits coming from the same rhizone would suggest that this is true.
