Ians 20g long inc DIY stand

Hi all,

Ive been nosying around the forum for a while now and have recently started my planted tank.

I bought a tank from ebay complete with internal Fluval filter for £16 and then set about building my stand and hood. I really enjoyed the building of it and am very happy with the way it has turned out. I was going to venear it but i quite like the chipboard actually. It cost about £30 to buy the wood and screws to build the stand and I will defo be doing it this way again next time.

My current set up consists of:

20g tank
Fluval internal filter
150w elite heater
2 x 36w PC on one controller
dual gage pressurised jbl co2 unit
18kg Eco Complete

PH Morning 7.5 Evening 7
Amonia 0
Nitrate 5
Nitrite 0
GH 200
KH 160 and rising due to eco complete !!

Fertilised with Flora 24 (although I may switch to EI sooner than I think)

Here are some pics

Nice looking setup, especially the stand and hood. What kind of lights are those? And, what kind of CO2 setup is it? Is that MDF material or particle board?

Thanks, It contains 2 x 36w t5 PC lights on a single controller. The co2 is a JBL proflora Profi 2 system which has a 500gram cylinder, dual gauges and a solenoid valve on timer. It comes on 1 hour before lights and turns off 30 mins before lights off.

The stand and hood is made from 18mm chipboard or particle board as you in the states call it i think with 3 screw in handles. I think its great...........but then im biased ;-)

Nice tank you have there but that stand surely doesnt look stable i would atleast build a frame out of 2 x 4's that can fit inside the cabinet. Also how much did your Co2 system cost you ?

Thanks fish lover0591, I can assure you the base is extremely stable, you must remember it is built out of 18mm (3/4 inch) chipboard and has ample screws holding it together. Also the back panel is situated inside the top sides and bottom panels which gives it its stability. It doesent move at all, I made sure the measurments were all exact so it fitted together perfectly.

Co2 system cost £199.99 (£265 RRP) and they threw in another 500g cylinder, which was nice !!

If your looking for nice C02 Cylinders I suggest you check out Kegerators, Wine Refrigerators, Water Coolers, Beer Taps, Compact Refrigerators | BeverageFactory.com.

How long do you think that 500gram cylinder is going to last?

KH rises from the ECO-Complete!? I have ECO-Complete in my tank too and noticed my GH/KH levels were higher than my tap water and couldn't figure it out. So what causes the levels to rise exactly?

water + chipboard = disaster
That stuff will turn to mush after too much exposure to moisture. I hope you sealed it at least. That's a beautiful tank I would hate to see it fall...
