I use one of these for a planted nano tank. I immediately stripped it of it's stock lightbulb, and replaced it with a 10w bulb from Lights of America, at 6500k. Then I removed the ugly honking Whipser filter that came with it and replaced it with a Red Sea nano filter. It was definitely a respectable low-light nano tank. If I did it all over again, I would just remove the hood and trim completely, and stick a Hampton Bay desklamp over the top. It would provide much better light coverage, and would bump it up to medium-high lighting. DIY co2 would be plenty in a tank this small.
Would I recommend this tank to another aquascaper? Yes, I would, with the above modifications in mind.
