supaoopa Been a while...

Ugj's moved to 55gal. Eco complete, 4 t-5's, co2 paintball setup, no filter media just moving water, biweekly 50% water change, flourish/excel/potassium.

Goldfishcrazy11 I don't recommend stacking your lava/rainbow rocks on top of one another. One little push, and a fish could be crushed.

supaoopa Its been a while since i have updated so here's a semi recent pic after the tank was moved to a new location.

Plants are just starting to settle in an fill out again. Will update when it looks a little better since I'm still not to happy with the new look.

Unfortunetly the new location is next to a semi bright window so I'm starting to experience a bit of algae growth on the side closest to the window. I guess sooner or later i would have to get some experience with algae control in this tank.

supaoopa update...

I took out one piece of the rainbow rock and some old plants. I spreadout the remaining plants and put a couple clippings of bacopa and rotala to see if they will grow well and form a better cover on the right side of the tank. Can't really see them to well in the pic but they are all planted behind the remaining piece of rainbow rock in the tank.

Here's a pic of my new filter for the 29 gal. Ehiem 2215 canister filter.

All the water in the tank is being filtered at almost 23 times and hour. Overkill.

supaoopa here's an old pic from when i first put them in my tank. The color has really started to come out over time and the fins have a really nice red outline.

Silly PetsCo. They draw in you in for their plastic stuff.
LOL, i know what you mean. Its a good thing i decided on those first few live plants to really get me going in the right direction (got me to searching the net for more info). If it wasn't for sites like this with so much helpful information i would still be stuck with a few half dead plants and a bubbling treasure chest.

Sorry about that. I was actually messing with the camera setting when i took those pics (also using no flash). Although my water is a bit yellow so the pics aren't that off to what it really looked like with just the 20watt florescent bulb. It always was more of a glow than a very bright light after the drift wood started turning my water into a 'mellow yellow' color.

supaoopa update on the 29...

Added 65 watt aqua light.

Also added a Eheim 2215. I'm getting 664gph (est.) water flow combined! no such thing as overfiltration i quess.

supaoopa just an update on the 29 gal.

Plants have been holding up very well considering there is less the 1wpg. I will be upgrading the lights soon with a 65watt CF strip so i can get some carpet plants to hopefully grow in the front of the tank. Let me know what you think... would i possibly have an algae problem by going to a higher watt bulb? I'm very happy with my almost completely algae-free tank and would hate to upset the balance.

Buck Good lookin start on your tanks supaoopa...

Check your Java Ferns and be sure that the rhyzome is not buried at all in the substrate, the hair roots in the substrate are fine but not the rhyzomes, they wont die but the growth slows down immensely.
A great way to anchor the ferns for a low planting like that is to get some small pieces of lava rock (or large pieces and a hammer ) and just tie it with on with thread and drop them in the tank. Its also nice to be able to remove the plant for trimming time or to give it a root trim without makin a mess.
