TwistedAngel I just use plain posterboard (usually black). Cheap, effective, and easy to switch out when I get bored.

Stone454 Hendrix the betta does chase them around here and there just to show those fish who's tank it is, but it is very short chases and I have seen no nipping. I used good ole GE door and window silicone, anything that is 100% silicone with not anti-mold/mildew agents in it will work just make sure to let it cure for as long as it says or longer to be extra safe, it really doesnt take muck to glue them on very thin amount so dries really fast, but still wait 24-36 hours

Omaknits Cool slate! I just painted my tank back black and now it looks like a spooky black hole. Not happy with it at all. Maybe if I plant the whole back with plants, It will brighten up. I also like the frosted window film idea. Where do you get such a thing?

Aqualady I absolutely love that slate as the background! What did you use to glue it on?

cowfish007 Nice tank. Does the betta give the other fish a hard time? Looked like all wa well from what I watched of the vid.

Stone454 I have gone to paint the back outside of the glass with black paint then breaking up slate floor tiles and gluing them on and using moss in the is an example.. my 40b it's still pretty new so the moss has not filled in yet and you get to see my giant purple betta Hendrix and the gang..

Exactly. When you see pics for a contest, don't assume it's exactly how it looks. People will not only take out equipment and add various lighting/back lighting techniques but they also may use fans, remote flashes, etc. In many ways, I feel like some of these contests are more a photography contest but my point is to not assume that these tanks look how they are photographed, be it equipment, effects they use, or getting the right picture at the right time.

calex118 SOme people use frosted window film, it looks pretty good and the tank will show brighter

phishfriend I paint the back of my tanks black. Have thought of doing a light gray. Wouldnt but the tank infront of a window because it may cause algae issues. Filters are essential to a healthy tank.

I would like to know what people like to use on the back glass of their tanks. Do you paint it and if so, what color do you like? The contest winners tend to have an ethereal light sky-looking background. How do they get that? If you leave the glass clear, then you can see the cords hanging down behind and the things on the wall behind the tank, such as a window. Also, how do they do without the equipment like filter pump and heater?
