HD Blazingwolf my rainbows are avid eaters of veggie flakes (spirulina) frozen bloodworms from ocean nutrition and mysis shrimp
they also take hard dry foods, and veggie matter
I FEED A LOT once per day, sometimes twice.. there is definitely something going on as mine are voracious little eaters

Asking cause sometimes fish display picky behavior when they have parasites, and poop color can be a indicator if that's the case :-)

jhays79 Yeah, I should mention I have three Red Rainbows, 2 Turqoise, and 3 Kamaka's. The Red Rainbows especially have grown a lot since I bought them. The others look healthy. I will try fasting them for a day or two, if that doesnt work I will try a different food. I've seen the Hikari Micro Pellets, maybe I will give them a shot.

Bruce_S If you've had them 4-6 months and they don't look absolutely emaciated, they're probably getting enough to eat.

Give glass worms (aka. Mosquito larva) its one of there natural foods. I fast my bows each Sunday and by Monday night I think they are going to jump out of the tank and into the container to get the food

thelub I had some tiger barbs that would be finicky about which color of flake they at. It was pretty frustrating, but they were fat and healthy so I just overlooked the fact they were picky. If they went hungry it was their own damn fault :P

Fishermike You don't mention what kind you have. Some, like threadfins and blue-eyes, have very tiny throats. Maybe try frozen baby brine shrimp, daphnia, hikari micro-pellets, etc.

On the other hand, if you've had them for that long, whatever you're doing is obviously working!

jhays79 Yeah, i was thinking about that. I feed them lightly once a day. I'm going to skip a couple of days and try again.

How often do you feed them? You might try to fast them for a few days.

CrypticLifeStyle Typically the are not picky eaters. How long have you had them for? What color is there poop?

Rainbowfish picky eating habits beginning to tick me off.

I have 8 rainbows. I try feeding them spirulina flakes, reg flake food, and frozen blood worms and mysis shrimp. They pretty much take them in their mouths and spit it out. They barely eat any of it. I buy decent quality foods too like Hikari, Ocean Nutrition, and Omega One. Any advice? The fish will attack the food vigorously, but just spit it right back out. I have another tank with just Swordtails and they devour the same food like Pirahnas.
