assasin6547 ^And, I need saltyshrimp gh+. Would anyone sell me some of theirs? I'm about broke.

assasin6547 Update:

Things are finally getting better. Got an RO/DI filter from pwc for cheap, and it works so I'm happy. The driftwood was getting annoying cuz it's so big, so I cut it down to size - into 3 pieces. Lots of moss growth, but it's not as good as somewhatshocked's, dunno why. I'd take pics but I lost *ahem* I mean misplaced my camera. So no pics, sadly. Picked up 2 otos and an amano!

Params:

pH >6.0
Ammo >0.5
Nitrite 0
Nitrate ~20
kh >1
gh >1

The pH of the RO water is >6, is that correct? I CAN'T WAIT FOR SHRIMP!

assasin6547 I need to reset this piece of crap. Here are current issues:

1. FIXED
2. Algae. Lots of it. Hair algae, mostly. I need some otos and amanos.

assasin6547 Yeah, a bit. Time for an update. Sooo the ammonia still hasn't finished leaching and the tank is a mess! I'm getting all kinds of unwanted fungal and algae growth... At least the moss is making progress (slowly).

Added some ponds snails and a guppy fry, however I'm not sure if the snails will be OK because the GH is sitting at a 0-1. I NEED an RO/DI system and GH raiser... Does the aquasoil lower GH? Will my snails die?

Unfortunately the pH is not as low as I would like, others' are around 4.5-5.5, but mine is closer to 6.4 Probably cuz tap is a ****ing 8.8+!!!

AguaTropical Has your tank settled down yet?

assasin6547 Not much to update... my fissidens haven't shown much growth, but the 'mini xmas' and flame moss is growing fast. Retested the water...

Ammonia 4.0
Nitrite 6.0
Nitrate 20

So it's still leaching. I've decided to get the best deal of shrimp I can, rather than choose a specific color.

Which ones did you want to see pics of specifically? All? The only one of mine that looks deadish is the mini pellia, it doesn't seem to be doing so hot. Mosses I have:

Xmas
Mini xmas
Flame
Taiwan
Java
Willow
Weeping
Fissidens
And one I can't think of off the top of my head.

I'm either going to get ramshorns or golden pond snails, they seem the most interesting. Anyhow, it's going to be a long time before this thread gets interesting.

PS
Still a fantabulous RAOK. I'm so happy for weeping moss!

Without a cycle, adding fish would be signing a warrant to at least Torture them.

My standard snail statement:
I find they're a great indicator of tank health. They reproduce if you have a habit of overfeeding. So when they reproduce too much, you know not to feed that much going forward!

They also help feed your shrimp and keep your tank clean. That's all just my own opinion.

assasin6547 Patience? What's that? JK, I know it's something I don't have. Guess I should probably just chill and wait for the moss to grow. Maybe I should add a fish or too just for fun.

Still no positive IDs for the mosses? Thank you everyone for the interest.

lamiskool One thing your going to have to develope with keeping an aquarium I found out is patience! If you try and rush things it can hurt the livestock or cut their lifespan. Also when Ive rushed things when setting up new aquariums, something always ends up going wrong so ive learned over time to just be more patient.

Dang I don't know if I can wait that long... is it possible that I could maybe develope an amazing biological filter and then add shrimp earlier? 3 weeks is a long time. I might get some snails that are of value... not just normal 'pest' snails.
05-01-2013 04:05 AM
assasin6547 No seriously I have a 55 gallon, a 5 gallon, and this 10, never had any pest snails. Some pond snails came on my riccia and moss but I soaked it in tap for about a week, let them fall out, and crushed 'em all. I got a ramshorn once from H4n, but it died in my moss farm. :P
