Tokemoke These guys look so cool! Anyone have pictures of the habitats you've created for them?

gordonrichards Its all about providing them caves
Temperature in the lower 70s
Light humidity, with a water feature.
I like to provide more dry area in the tank and more wet area.
I provide plenty of live food in the form of crickets and superworms.
I provide crab pellets and take them out of tank after 6-7 hours.

Substrate I use common cocofiber, they will burrow into it.

I just got a batch of 50 in, I had some dead on arrival as per usual, but once they chill out in the tank they will be fine. The real hope is to get a mix of male/female and harvest baby crabs. Right now I have red devils which are showing great red color and common yellow/purples.

They really do require dry and wet areas in the tank.

Hobbes1911 hmmm. So is it the transit for shipping or what is the ultimate killer? And substrate wise, I was planning on having it moist but not water logged (since in a high humidity set-up, dry substrate is pretty much impossible to achieve) - thoughts?

Warlock OOH.. another thing.. if you buy from LFS>. IF you see them.. my LFS had like 4 shipments come in and it was almost always 9-1 Male.. and female usually DOA

think it was a HEAT THING

Warlock i believe they will like the moist.. but not some much saturated..

i was looking for like a bowl that i can place in the substrate.. to see if the would actually like being in the water.. but i believe they are terrestrial then anything

Hobbes1911 hmmm I was planning on using ABG substrate with 4" deep substrate. I hope they'll make it. What kind of water conditions should I be shooting for?

from all i saw.. it was the correct environment.. there is not much out there on where/how they should be housed..

they like to borrow in the substrate.. so i got some zoo med riversand to mix like a one to one ratio with cocofibers.. to at least 4".. and fill with water to about the 2" mark..

some others had water features.. some just moss.. i was going to use the mix and still have to stuff for when i am ready..
also.. i was going to enclose the top.. to keep in mositure

no, but i researched and researched. not much out there, not much international either.. i knew the substrate i was going to use.. (zack from josh frogs helped out).. and then i was buying a batch from LFS>. a worker there and i were splitting the batch.. but some were DOA.. Bi Color and Vampire.. she held on to them to see if they would stabilize.. they never did and they died.. a group out of houston bought a whole bunch.. that was first place is saw them.. i followed their thread.. and after a few weeks they all just about died..

i know of a couple of people that have captive breed.. but only BI COLOR.. one in ausitn (only have Long Term Captive now), one in wyoming.. and another guy.. i forget if he is in this forum or another..

i got more involved with my discus and did not pursue anymore.. but now i may to my local guy here and pick up a pair for my office
