One of my other "hobbies" is making soda. I use the tire valve stem into a 2l bottle cap method for carbonation.
I usually set my regulator around 80 PSI to carbonate the soda. My regulator is a cheap tool regulator, so I really don't know how accurate it is.
As for of filling a 2l with pressurized CO2, I doubt it would last more than a day. You probably would get the same effect as tapping a bottle of seltzer water.

I agree refilling a 2L bottle from pressurized CO2 wouldn't work. At 90PSI, CO2 is still in the gaseous state, which is FAR less dense than CO2 in the liquid state as found in a pressurized tank at 800PSI. So it really won't hold much CO2. And as you use it, the pressure would constantly be dropping, so you'd need a regulator to ensure a constant flow - for a setup that would probably run less than a day. Plus, while a brand new soda bottle may reliably survive a one-time pressurization to 90PSI, I definitely wouldn't do it on a day-to-day basis!
But this has me wondering about something else. I've heard you cannot drive an "atomic" style diffuser with DIY. Why not?

|Sugardaddy1979||I don't think that would work. You could potentially refill your own paintball can I guess. Or use a manifold and run to your other tank, but I don't know close to enough about pressurized to tell you how to do either. We were talking about the psi a soda bottle can hold related to controlling the co2 out of a diy system.|

If so then thats great, but for me i have 1 pressurized system in a room and a DIY C02 running in a different room ..... hence it would be great if i could just refill my pop bottle from my pressurized system.|

|stevenjohn21||So if the average pop bottle can hold 90psi and you use one of those caps, could you "refill" the pop bottle with a pressurized C02 setup ? That would be way better than mixing sugar and yeast every 2 weeks !|

I stumbled across this a while back when I found myself intrigued by SodaStream. It's a 5lb cylinder with a reg set at 60 psi. The guy says he's tested it to 90.
edit - he also mentions that he picked up the cap and quick-release for 6 bucks shipped Evilbay. Not the same as pictured above.

|Sugardaddy1979||On mythbusters they said the bursting pressure was 90 psi. I saw once where someone built in a pressure release valve, but I can't find it now. They used a needle valve and everything.|

Has anyone bought one of these? If so, does it fit a standard 2L bottle very well? It is a great deal, at $5 with shipping included.
They illustrate the usage of this by showing it on a 2L bottle with a 90 psi pressure gage on the other opening, and no safety valve showing. Will one of those bottles actually hold that much pressure?
