if you have plants, i wouldn't recommend the glass top.

there is a much bigger difference than expected with using the top and not. I'm using the top due to evap issues, but once I put this light up on the next tank, i won't use it.
sweet! thanks for the input!

lullafishi Just wanted to add for anyone else who may be reading/considering... I got my 36" Finnex Fugeray in the mail today and it also fits perfectly on my Petco 40b.

mizzoutank Not a problem

they fit so well, you don't really need to screw them on. there is maybe 1/8inch gap once it is resting on the tank.

I can snap pictures if you'd like

Thanks for confirming! I knew the legs were extendable to a degree, but I was more unsure if the detachable(?) inner leg "flap" would fit over the rim itself so that you can use the screws.

mizzoutank No water in this 40b (shown with pictures)
I can fill it up, but the tank is on the floor and a pain to drain.

I have it on my other 40b that is up and running, so I can post pictures later. (be warned-it's a failing planted tank...so be nice. lol)

and this is the standard 40b set up. purchased the tank from petco.

lullafishi YESSSSSSS. THANK YOU. I've been waffling on buying this fixture for my 40b.

Is your 40b the standard petco 40b or a different type, and can you provide any insight on how well the legs fit the rim? I've heard some people say the inner leg fits the rim and others say it's just short of fitting.

I'm no where near experienced enough to tell if it provides great front-to-back coverage, so I'm looking forward to hearing what you think and what others say!

blink That has great front to back coverage, looks like it'll really do well for you.

40 Breeder w/ Finnex-finally some judgement

Finally caved in and ordered the 36inch Finnex Fugeray.

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for a review/pics-but ive seen numerous posts on the concern w/ the 40b's depth, as well as other tanks that share this deep dimension on a tank.

1: Great build on this light
2: Beyond easy to set up-basically plug and play
3: Night lights (blue LED's are superb)
4: Shimmer is awesome.
5: The spread is impressive for such a narrow fixture.

Here are the pictures to justify my review (yes, i know on the last picture i'm rocking way to deep of substrate...i'm just playing with the design currently)

I can't tell if they are not as bright as my t5ho's, or provide just a cleaner/crisp/focused light that takes some adjustment....this is my first go with LED's. so feel free to criticize all you want-i'm open for the feedback.
