BruceF I have pretty good luck with Eleocharis 'belem" but I am not sure what you mean by low light. I am using spiral cfl but I don't consider that low light. I consider it cheap light.

In a bright room a 7g tank barely needs a light.

somewhatshocked C. parva is great as a carpeting plant if you start with enough of it.

I always recommend people buy about 10x the amount they think they need.

Low maintenance, rarely if ever needs trimming, provides nice ground cover for shrimp.

or I can stick to my crypt wendtti wannabe carpet lol.

Dwarf sag will grow taller than something named dwarf should.
C. Parva is the slowest grower of this group and will stay low, i've had 3 in my tank for as long as i can remember and they haven't really grown much at all.
i have no experice with tenellum, but i had another Helanthium that grew out of control on me.
and i have no experience marsilea but i'v heard good things.

the crypt wendtti will grow above the suface and taller than i think you want a carpet to, but trimming will keep it nice a bushy.

Yamaz I got DHG belem growing without co2 and low light (shop light & 26 watt daylight spiral cfl). It does grow slow and about 60% shorter than my tank with co2

ThatGuyWithTheFish We really should sticky this, because it gets asked way too often.

iplants I think I'll be going with the Helanthium tenellum. I have three tanks to plant (Christmas gift) and will be experimenting with the others! Thank you all. Very excited!!

iplants Lol wow. Well I guess there are pros and cons to all of them.

Now if I wanted to do dwarf hair or HC what would I need?

This is my lighting system for now. I dose CO2 booster and liquid ferts. That's about it. Lol very low tech. Lol

Thank you all for your help! You have no idea how much you're helping a stressed beginner!

tomfromstlouis I don't want to throw a wet blanket over the Marselia idea, but mine has gone nowhere in 5 months. Well, mostly it has disappeared, but a couple pieces look just as they did when I planted them.

See that hint of green at the tip of the driftwood front and center? Neither do I...

iplants Can I trim the dwarf sag if it gets taller? My tank is only a 7 gal 12x12x12

Wicket_lfe Dwarf sag quickly took over my tank, and it grows a littel taller than I like, so depends on your setup. for me. Marsilea Minuta stays nice and low, but does grow slower.

Either way I would suggest a physical divider when possible.

Crypt wendtii is definitely easy to grow and can thrive in low light. I have plenty in my foreground.
