Looking into getting into the hobby of shooting and guns. Advice?

With all the law enforcement guys on here I guess I'll share my fairly new to me(picked it up in Feb.) Glock 22 gen 2, it was a police trade-in from one of the local departments. Other then some holster wear, it is in good condition. Only thing I have done to it is swap out the old plastic guide rod for a new stainless guide rod.

This is my first handgun & I'm enjoying it, learning a lot! I got a membership at the local indoor range the same week I purchased this weapon. I've been going with a retired NY State Trooper who has been helping make sure I'm doing things properly! I also own a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun.

The Knoxx Stock is a recoil management stock. Very nice if you have Wife/GF that isn't a regular shooter as the reduction in recoil is substantial.

If you want a home defense shot gun, I suggest the Rem 870HD. It comes with a factory mag extension. I added a Knoxx stock to mine. With the Knoox stock #1 & Deer Slugs feel like #8 out of a 410.

A 125 lumen flashlight & XS ghost ring sights round out the package

Got a Mossberg 500 persuader and put a Phoenix Technology collapsible stock on it looks very similar to that. I just have a bead sight on mine though. I haven't been able to find any after market ghost ring sights. I think I would like them better.

roadmaster Agree with 22 rifle for first gun.
Second purchase should/would be gun safe. (not closet).

I'll be one of 4 K9's in the county...SO has 3 and my town will have the one I'm handling.
No I'll be in the jail to begin with. I have to be there at least 6 months before I can put in for a lateral transfer. Once the 6 is over I'll start looking into other areas to try and pick up experience to get on the road.

I picked up a taurus pt1911 for home defense. My friend sold it to me. New, never fired.

I also picked up this eea zavasta pap ak-47 from a buddy. I traded a nitro powered rc car for it. Lol its a single stack but i am gonna get the well dremeled to a doublestack, add a yugo m70 bolt carrier group to feed double stack mags and get the m70 trunion to square off the rear to accept all ak furniture. I got it with 280 rounds also. Not a bad deal i say.

It will be either a GSD or a Belgian unless he gets a Detection only, then it could be anything. I always had fun visiting the AMK9 compound my last deployment, pups always make you smile, no matter the circumstances.

I was curious to what you were referring to when you said "on duty"
I was actually just hired on by the Sheriffs Dept. I start next Monday. I have always wanted to do the K9 thing. Only two deputies in our county and two police offers in the city with dogs.
