Makarovnik I talked to one of the employees and she said that they will be selling their 5ft and 6ft LEDs for $100 a piece.
It doesn't do me good because I have never owned a tank that long, but it might help others.

marley77 Yea I just heard from aquarium center, 4-6 weeks on the move. They are only moving down the street though.

I ordered plants from BamaPlants. Customer service is good. They have a pretty good selection.

n25philly Definitely depends on where you are located. If it's not too far, I would go to aquarium center in clementon, NJ before hidden reef. It's a much, much better store and they do usually have a pretty good collection of plants. (as long as you don't get down there after they've been picked clean that is) The store is much cleaner and well taken care of as well. I don't know how prices compare as I'm the type to buy what I want when I see it so I've never compared directly, but they are likely comparable. Aquarium Center is also moving in a few weeks so it might be a good time to find some deals. (I know they will be selling all of their tanks and equipment for pretty cheap)

themetalchurch Sent you a pm. Very excited to get this up and running. Need to figure out a light set up, it's a 20H 24x12x16 and the single bulb fixture I got with it wont be enough for plants.

Fishies_in_Philly Depends on what area you are in. Not many local shops carry a decent selection of plants. I could easily cough up about a half dozen crypts and some anubias 'nana', and probably some mixed mosses.
As far as driftwood goes. eBay is a good place to find decent wood. If you are touchy-feely, like I am, and prefer to actually hold the wood in your hands and twist and turn it so you can get a better idea of how it goes in the tank, then hidden reef has some nice mopani wood. The pricing is 'reasonable' for a retail shop. But if you factor how much it costs to ship mopani due to it's density (it's probably cheaper to ship lead lol), it pretty much equals out. If you are going for a more 'naturalistic' look, then look no further than you me closest park. Oak makes a fine wood for a planted tank. It releases a lot of tannins, which turn the water yellowish-brown, but that can be handled with purigen or charcoal.

That should get you started. If it's within your means, check out aquarium center in jersey. They normally have a decent selection of stuff, although I can't vouch for them personally, since I haven't been there in a few years. Hope this gets you started.

themetalchurch hey everyone, i'm putting my first planted tank together and would love to find an alternative to the big chain pet stores. looking for low light/fast growing "beginner" plants to fill out my new set up. especially interested in java ferns, crypts, swords, mosses and something for carpeting or faux carpeting (dwarf grass?). also looking for a good line on driftwood. resigned to just using rocks in my initial set up but would really like to get some dw in there once i get it soaked clean. cheers all!

Fishies_in_Philly Does anyone have any nice stems to sell? Limnophilias or pogostemon? Maybe some nice rotalas? I'm starting to acquire plants for a 40 semi cube high tech tank.

Oh, and weeping moss, does anyone have any?

moonwasaloon I went to the Hidden Reef yesterday, but they was already sold out of the Black Cobalts.

Does anyone have any MTS snails for sale?

Fishies_in_Philly Just an FYI for anyone looking for shrimp. Hidden reef had some black cobalts. $4.99/ea. They didn't have a lot, but the ones they had looked decent. They also have red rillis, but I think I only saw a pair in the tank and both female.

marley77 Lomggonne, yea BamaPlants has been great getting me replacements for what didn't survive. No complaints on this end. They made it right.

Yea Bill I see pond snails and one ramshorn. Never had a problem with either as long as I didn't overfeed. I bet more shrimp come out of hiding. The big female molted too so that's a decent sign.

What kind of snails are in your tank? I got one hitch-hiker. I don't mind him.

I'm going to post pictures of the tank in the show your tank thread. I've got a bunch of questions.

Snails in my tank are pond snails and rams horns. I have assassins too, but they haven't been in there long enough to breed.

I had the same thing happen with bamaplants last year, post office lost them, showed up a week and a half after shipping. Bamaplants worked something out with me, contact them, they're a great bunch, maybe they'll hook up you up too.

Hey, it was my pleasure Bill. It was great seeing you again.

How did the shrimp fare? Did they survive their journey ok? Some we a bit on the small side.
