AirstoND Don't worry about. There's typically enough circulation/aeration with a HOB or canister to supplement plants in a 20 without having to go Rudeberg with DIY CO2. I'd look at and post your other tank parameters such as plant type/density, light, fish load/nutrient levels, and temp.

waterwookiee Thanks Ant! I was thinking the exterior filterbox would keep the CO2 out completely however based on what you're saying the big night bubbles won't matter much anyway. I do however have a little power filter.

xmas_one i think it's a great idea. just put the co2 input somewhere where it will burp in the filter instead of in the tank.

antbug Yes this would work and others have done this in the past. Once the power head shuts off, large bubble will come out and most co2 will escape before it's dissolved.

Help me out people! The lives of a least a dozen plants counts on it!

Off the wall DYI CO2 reactor idea

I'm new to the plant/CO2 thing so i've been reading here almost nonstop for two weeks. Thanks for being such a well informed community.

I'm going to do DYI CO2 in my 20h tank. The pickle has beed how to "shut off" the CO2 at night. How about using a very small power filter on a timer? Run the gas line into the intake so when the lights come on, the same time can power up the filter. When they're off, the filter would cut out and the CO2 would just stay in the filter box (and leak out). It also would eliminate the need for a second timer on an airpump. Seem like it would work. Thoughts?????
