|Soothing Shrimp||Thanks Kinection. The project is going slower than I hoped, but we keep on trudging along.|

I can't wait to buy some of them.
Looking GREAT so far!

I'm keeping them for now because if for some reason a tragic event happens and I lose all my higher quality Nessies, I have something to fall back on.

Yeah. Unfortunately the fems are the first to get the desired color in a strain.
Then much more selective breeding is necessary after that to get the males to the wanted degree of color.

My Nessie project
Hmm. If you could get the males to look painted, I'd be über happy. I'd assume it just takes more time than Females, but is still possible

|Soothing Shrimp||I do, too. Luck of the draw right now though. (To be fair though, they are yellow eyes. )|

|ravensgate||Holy cow that orange eyed is gorgeous. Hope you get more like him/her!!|

Most have the black eye, but that one has the awesome yellow eyes that really stand out.
Nightshadebel, that's a darn good question. I wish these shrimp would answer it by producing higher quality faster. LOL
I only have maybe 8 fems in my tank now after culling a couple hundred. These fems are as high quality as the pic or near solid, so I have to breed more for better selection.
The more painted they are, the more of a hunter green is produced due to higher concentration of pigment and less light showing though. Not really sure if that is a good thing or not. I suppose after all my hard work is finally done making painted Nessies, people may prefer the lower qualities and breed down. LOL Well, that will be up to them.
My biggest problem right now seems to be the males. Typical of cherries, none are really very well colored. So I don't know who has the best genes.
As the babies grow more, I'll have to cull the older males in there currently to ensure the correct genes reproducing, but that means adding more time to the project. I have 2-3 yrs invested in the project already, so hopefully the release date will be sooner than later. (?)
