Since I'm running two of the 36" Ray II LED's on my tank, I've noticed when the timer kicks them on in the AM, it's like the Sun blasting the tank all at once. I was thinking about a auto-controlled dimmer that would hook between the timer and lamps to bring the light level up slowly so the fish don't drop fins when it comes on. Any ideas or plans would be appreciated...

I did look at some of the home automation stuff. But the info shown is not very clear about how well it would work for my purposes. Plus the programming looks serious complicated.

Thanks!
Hi Finnex! As you can see above, I'm (and some others) are looking to fit a dimmer on Ray II's. Fortunately, depending how you look at it, another Member told us about the electrical problems that could arise from using a regular old dimmer. My question is, does Finnex have any ideas or input on how to accomplish this?

I LOVE my Finnex! Thanks!

Forumsnow I have a reef keeper that will do dimming. Is there anyway I can switch to a dimmable driver so I have the option? I am thinking about a ray 2 for my 12 long and would really love the sunrise/set and also the possibility to lower light without raising it too much. This is basically the deciding factor wether I go with the ray 2 or jump into DIY.

fish878 You can buy neutral density filter sheets. They are cheap and the .5 nd sheet will reduce your light about 30%. www.bhphotovideo.com is where I bought mine for my 48" T5 HO. I just didn't have the ability to raise my light and this was a nice alternative.

Dany08fa Raise the light. Use floaters to dim the light

Ray 2 Dimming options

I may be late for this discussion, but are there any options or methods of dimming the output of the Ray 2 lights?

Currently I just have a sheet of paper covering my lid on one half to provide some shade for my fish, lol.
