NWA-Planted Saw an article on these on a reef site to! Very interesting, though i would look at them as an alternative vs replacing led's.

However the low heat production means no heat sinks :-)

acitydweller Would be interesting to see if they work in projector applications above our tanks, or if they would slip into a hidden application behind the rim... Now that would be cool!

Then all the rimless folks could have rim envy. Lol

Smitty06 That would be illegal, the big company cannot buy the rights to something that is created by a more or less scientific lab to make a monopoly. The government will stop it and break them up into smaller companies if need be.

And then there is always the chance that a major company can bu up the patents/rights to it, and just sit on it to prevent some other company making a competing product :/

amberoze It says cheap, but slap a name brand on it, and it gets very expensive, very fast.. G.E. ... Sylvania. ... etc.

LEDs are just now overtaking flourescents in this hobby, and look how long LEDs have been around...

GOJIRADOR well if history has taught me anything this technology will have a few more years of development (it does require carbon nanotubes after all which is still a very new technology) then it will slowly get phased in and by that time LED's will be a lot cheaper especially in comparison. It'd probably take almost a decade from now for the tech to surpass LED's in effectiveness. That's one thing I've always disliked about the fish hobby though, no matter how advanced your new toy is, it'll still be gross and outdated in a few years
