DogFish I don't have any pic going back that far. My prior vehicle was a Suburban, I had a hitch cargo carrier basically like this one:

Underneath the plywood was the standard steel cargo hitch carrier. The plywood was covered with boat carpet to be water proof. This worked for a while as it was 1/2 the distance to "load-up". As his Cancer got worse, I made a second deck pc. I attached it with 4" door hinges at the side so the 2nd deck would butterfly fold down on the side to create a ramp. Then fold on top of the base for driving.

My Dog was about 95#s. This was strong enough to holds him, Gayle didn't have to struggle with a heavy clumsy ramp and it didn't take up a lot of room.

I've seen a few people with these folding steps:

Mostly they had Mastiff breed dogs and they were younger. So, keep your dogs mobility in mind with this type.

Nubster Sounds like an easy enough project. I'd guess a couple 2x3's, some plywood, and maybe a little carpet for grip and you're in business. Perhaps some rubber on the end that hits the ground for grip, or make sure you offer a planted foot while the dog is on the ramp to prevent it from kicking out. You could even add some heavy duty hinges and make it foldable.

Here's lot of pics to give some ideas...

Has anyone ever built a dog tailgate ramp? Show me your pics!

Hi all,

This forum has a lot of DIYers who make great stuff. We have a 70 pound 11 year old lab mix who can't quite make it into the pickup anymore, and who jumps out of it even though she shouldn't. I 've finally convinced my spouse, who is great at these projects, to build her a ramp.

We'd love to see some pictures of homemade truck ramps and any advice would also be great.

We figure we have most of the materials and Ron needs a chore to keep him busy! Thanks,
