Maybe you can start a mini-GWAPA up there! I've been to Anchorage many times; it's a nice city except during the pothole season!

|Silky||Glad to see there is a planted tank community up in Anchorage. I'll be relocating up there in a few months. Really dreading tearing down tanks and selling fish/plants off. Oh well, here's to starting over soon.|

|Krystal907||Still trying to get my 75g up and running. I kind of stopped doing anything about it because I realized how much I hated the stand that came with the tank. The Man and I are almost done building my new stand (just need to finish it) and then I will be able to ACTUALLY get my tank up and running! I'll be doing an order of Diamond tetra's from ACF (Alaska Coral and Fish) first and pick up as many Spiral Vals as I can just to get the background started. I had a big ol plan for how I wanted everything to look, but it's been so long I will have to re-imagine it. Plus, the stupid driftwood I found is not cooperating and sinking for me... They've gotten more water logged, but not sinking all the way. Oh, and plumbing the sump with the new stand is not something I look forward to.|

I'm from Alaska. I just joined the forum and I am hoping to keep fish for a while.
akdylpickles-What does ACF stand for? I might be interested in ordering from them

Its awesome to see this hobby is doing so good in Alaska. I'm from South Africa but would love to move to alaska in about two years time. Have dreamed about your country for a very long time and thinks its one of the most amazing places on earth!
Hope everything works out and that I Get a job there after I'm qualified artisan.

|akdylpickles||Have you gone to ACF? They can just about order you anything you want!|

|AKnickolai||Figured I'd drop in and say hello to everyone. I'm in the process of setting up my dream tank, 150 gallon with high clarity glass that has been sitting in my garage for 3 or 4 years... I'll be doing a rather massive plant order from somewhere in the next few weeks if all goes well, but I'd like to at least try and see what I can find local. So if anyone wants to get in and save on shipping let me know. I've shipped discus up in the winter before and never had a DOA, so I'm sure it can be done with plants.|

|grogan||They usually run around $85|

|akdylpickles||How much do you need?|

Either way, I am sure that for plenty of people this would be right and better option (faster buy, can see before buying, etc.), but I just CAN'T spend $25 x 3 (or 4) on grass mats... Buying online is my only hope. Would have been better, split two ways, though.
As is, I am currently wrestling with my stingy nature to purchase some Amano shrimp there
P.S.: how much are the sq.f mats?

Im getting back into the habit of visiting the forum because I am still the ADA and plants purchaser and this is the best way for customers to get ahold of me. So let me know!

|grogan||I was getting ready to put in an order for next week if you are still interested.|

My pond is indoors, it's a 160 gallon preformed, it houses 2 Red Eared Sliders, had 10 big gold fish that were feeder fish that my turtles never ate. When my pump failed I think something got spilled into the pond as well, because the water went bad really quick, bought new pump, broke down pond and cleaned everything, got it back up and running again. Turtles are happy, I added 5 feeders last week, they are doing fine, turtles seem uninterested in them, and thinking about a school of tetras or other schooling fish.
Also anyone have any overgrown clippings they want to get rid of let me know, need some foliage in the pond.

I come back to the forum every now and then. Live in Wasilla. Doing mostly low-tech planted tanks with fish. Two 40Bs (Anubias, java fern, vals, crypts with Firemouth Cichlids and Swords in one, and lost of java fern, anubia and crypts with neons, SAE, and cories in the other) An older 55 gallon being overrun by vals -- great hiding spot for the male beta, and a couple odd tetras and a left-over red-tailed shark. It's mostly a plant tank now -- kinda let it go wild. Started a 10 gallon Red Cherry Shrimp-only tank a couple weeks ago. A few stem plants, small crypts, java fern and moss in that one. Combined all the assorted shrimp that were hiding in my 55 gallon into this 10 to try to give them a better life! And just setting up a 45 gallon tall for angels and maybe Bolivian Rams once it cycles.
Fun stuff. I'll have to come back to this Alaska subforum often. It was pretty quiet the last time I checked it last spring... ;-)
